Fayetteville Police Officer Killed After Being Ambushed

    Fayetteville, Arkansas–A Fayetteville police officer died tonight after being ambushed while sitting in his patrol car outside the police station in downtown Fayetteville. The shooter died after a shootout with responding officers a few feet away from the police station. The incident happened at 9:40 p.m. on Saturday behind the Police Station.

    Mike Reynolds, Chief of Fayetteville Police Department, said, “It appears as though the subject just entered the back parking lot and executed my officer.” He further explained that the FBI and Washington County Sheriff’s Office are handling the crime scene, and Fayetteville Police Department will handle the internal investigation.

    UPDATE: The officer has been identified as Stephen Carr who was hired at the Fayetteville Police Department in April of 2017. Carr was assigned as a patrol officer, currently working in the Dickson street entertainment district. The suspect has been identified as London T. Phillips 35 of Fayetteville. No motive has been released at the time of this post.
