The Arkansas Razorbacks won a thriller in Bud Walton Arena Tuesday evening over the visiting Vanderbilt Commodores 69-66. The Hogs jumped out to a 6-0 lead but then fell behind by as many as 10 points before freshman Isaiah Joe sank three straight 3 point shots to help close the gap to 1 by halftime at 35-34.
In the second half, the Hogs came out of the locker room fired up and went to work. They built a 9 point lead at 58-49 until Vandy came back on a 12-2 run. From there it was back and forth down the stretch. With Vandy up 66-64, Keyshawn Embery-Simpson buried a 3 from the corner to give the Hogs a 1 point lead with 17 seconds left. Vandy then turned the ball over with 8.2 seconds left and had to foul Mason Jones, who sank both free throws to close out the scoring.
Daniel Gafford led all scorers with 28 points and Isaiah Joe added 18 points, including 5 three pointers in the first half. Vanderbilt was led by Joe Toye with 18 points.
Next up for the Razorbacks is a road trip to South Carolina on Saturday. The Hogs are now 14-8, 5-4 in SEC play.
