The Arkansas Razorbacks started the basketball season with their annual Red-White game at Bud Walton Arena Friday evening. The festivities were kicked off with a friendly team dunk competition which was won by none other than Daniel Gafford with a monster dunk in the 2nd and final round.
The Hogs opened up the game with a lot of new faces. There are 7 freshmen on the team and 10 total newcomers. Daniel Gafford, the sophomore forward and pre-season first team All SEC as well as being named to the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award watch list, picked up where he left off last season with some impressive plays including a couple of dunks and solid play in the paint. He finished with 24 points and 12 rebounds in 30 minutes of play.
Several of the new faces played extremely well and showed this team has a lot of potential firepower. Isaiah Joe led all scorers with 31 points with 9 three pointers. Jalen Harris also added a double double with 16 points and 10 assists. The White team was paced by Adria Bailey, 22 points and 5 rebounds, Mason Jones, 22 points and 4 steals, and freshman guard Desi Sills, 16 points and 8 assists.
