Little Rock, Arkansas—Ballet enthusiasts were treated to four performances of the famous Nutcracker Suite this past weekend at Robinson Center in Little Rock.  Celebrating their 40th Anniversary season, Ballet Arkansas presented the two-part production with a cast of over 200 talented local children and adults and a professional company comprised of 14 professional dancers.  The Arkansas Symphony Orchestra skillfully accompanied the group, joined by two choral ensembles.

With auditions occurring in August and practices beginning in September, participants donated many hours to learn and practice the choreography, prepare costumes and design sets.

According to Catherine Fothergill, who is Co-Director with her husband, Michael Fothergill, this is the “largest holiday production in Arkansas.”  This was also the second year Ballet Arkansas livestreamed the Nutcracker Suite for Arkansas Children’s Hospital.

In order to reach a wider audience, Ballet Arkansas gave a special performance for United Cerebral Palsy and another for Centers for Youth and Families.  In addition, around 2,200 children from schools across the state came to see the Nutcracker Suite on Thursday and Friday.  In all, around 8,000 people got to enjoy the Ballet Arkansas Nutcracker Suite in 2018.
